Notes for Nancy Ann WILSON
"AUNT NANCY" DONAGHEY, ALLEN PIONEER DIES
Death that is fast thinning the ranks of Allen's early-day settlers Monday claimed "Aunt Nancy" Donaghey, 82-year-old widow of George W. Donaghey, who came to Allen 56 years ago.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, fron the Allen Church of Christ with LeRoy Thompson, minister, officiating. Interment was in the Allen Cemetery under direction of Criswell Funeral Home.
Aunt Nancy Donaghey was born April 5, 1857, in Monroe County, Kentucky. She lived a long and useful life, having attained the age of 82 years, three months and 26 days at the time of her passing July 31.
It is not given to everyone to live to the grand old age of four score years and to have lived as helpfully as Aunt Nancy did is to leave a benediction that will cheer the hearts of those remaining to mourn the passing of one of the fine characters of a community.
The Donaghey family, which included the husband of Aunt Nancy, George W. Donaghey, and his three brothers, M. P. Donaghey of Ada, and the late S. C. and M. B. Donaghey of Allen were among the first settlers in this immediate vicinity, coming here in 1881.
Aunt Nancy was married to George Donaghey when she was a young girl, and they reared a large family of children.
At the age of nineteen she became a member of the Chruch of Christ and her life as a citizen of Allen testifies to her being a Christian.
She leaves to mourn her passing one son, Charlie Donaghey of Allen; three daughters, Mrs. Ada Wilkins of Sulphur, Mrs. Viola Brumfield and Mrs. Myrtle Thompson of Allen; three brothers, George Wilson of Chewelah, Washington, J. D. Wilson of Van Alstyne, Texas and Haden Wilson of Weippe, Idaho; nineteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and other relatives.
